Optical CellsThe cells of such type are used to form plane-parallel layers of active media in dye lasers. Depending on geometry of optical pumping and the purpose in hand the cells of the different shape can be applied: cylindrical, rectangular or rather specific, providing dye layer thickness less than 1 mm. In combining with a lens the latter cell can be used as a Q-switch in lasers with passive self-mode locking.
